Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 31, 2026

Basalt Linux is built on a simple principle: your data belongs to you. We collect nothing, track nothing, and sell nothing. For the licensing of the project, see the License.

No Data. No Tracking. No Telemetry.

Basalt Linux is an open-source operating system built for transparency and user privacy. This page explains our approach to data and privacy — both in the operating system and on this website.

Data Collection

Nothing. Basalt Linux does not collect any personal data, telemetry, or usage information from users. The operating system has no tracking, analytics, or data-collection mechanisms built in. Your data stays on your machine.

Cookies & Analytics

This website does not use cookies, tracking scripts, or analytics services. We do not log visitors, store IP addresses, or monitor browsing behavior.

The Operating System

Basalt Linux does not phone home. The operating system contains no telemetry daemons, no account requirements, and no advertising. Updates are downloaded from the Debian repositories only when you choose to run them.

Because the entire project is open source, anyone can inspect the build system and distribution pipeline to confirm that no data collection exists.

Third-Party Services

This website is hosted on GitLab Pages. GitLab may collect standard server logs in accordance with their own privacy policy.

Our community Discord server is operated by Discord Inc. and governed by Discord's privacy policy. Basalt Linux itself does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services.

Your Rights

Because we collect nothing, there is nothing to export, delete, or correct. You remain in full control of your data at all times. If you ever want to verify this yourself, the entire source code is publicly available for inspection.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy ever changes, we will update this page and revise the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will also be announced through the community channels.
