What's New

  • Completely redesigned desktop — the default look is fully refreshed with the Orchis GTK theme and Papirus icon set.
  • Debian 13 (Trixie) base — upgraded foundation with the latest stable Debian packages, security updates, and hardware support.
  • Modern Welcome app — quick actions for updates, drivers, and setup right after first boot.
  • Performance tuned — streamlined services for a responsive experience, even on older hardware.
  • Essentials pre-installed — Firefox, LibreOffice, Thunar, VLC, and more, ready to use immediately.

Upgrading from 1.1

Because the desktop configuration has been redesigned, we recommend a fresh installation for the cleanest experience:

  1. Back up your important files to a separate drive.
  2. Download the new ISO from the download page and verify its SHA256 checksum.
  3. Create a bootable USB drive and install Basalt 1.2 Obsidian.
  4. Restore your personal files after installation.

For step-by-step instructions, see the installation guide.
